Ashley Sullivan (she/her) is the Senior Communications Manager for WE ACT for Environmental Justice‘s Federal Policy Office in Washington, D.C. At WE ACT, she supports their mission and broader environmental justice movement through narrative building, connecting frontline communities to the Hill and amplifying their experiences with decision makers, dynamic digital campaigns, as well as environmental justice network communications skill development, and community building. From issues ranging from just energy policy to healthy homes, Ashley focuses on ensuring the felt realities of environmental justice communities are heard and seen, aspiring to create a country that is fair, healthy, and safe for all.
Ashley has a varied background including 10+ years of expert communications, storytelling, design, and digital marketing in the social justice and environmental/conservation non-profit sector. She holds a Master of Science in Environmental Science & Policy from Johns Hopkins University with a focus on Environmental Justice and a BA in Anthropology and a minor in Biology from Stony Brook University. With previous roles including Director of Storytelling & Marketing for Communications & Partnerships at the Jane Goodall Institute, Ashley believes in growing understanding, empathy, and justice to ignite positive change for a better, more equitable world. Ashley is also part of the project ‘Greens REALIGN’ @greensrealign, which focuses on creating solutions to move mainstream environmentalism towards diverse, inclusive, humanistic, and imaginative models and outcomes. She is an artist, ukulele strummer, and moonlighting poet. Originally from Brooklyn, NY, she is currently based in DC with her husband and rescued Shiba Inu pup, Bowie.
